You would not have thought by just looking at it... But there is not one single gram of meat in this burger! The ingredient? Jackfruit, for a vegetarian revisit of the famous pulled pork sandwich.

Originating from South Asia, this soft and sweet-tasting fruit has fibrous flesh which, once cooked, is reminiscent of that of chicken or caramelised pork. Widely used in vegetarian Indian cuisine, it offers an excellent alternative to meat, in the same way as seitan (essentially made up of wheat protein), tempeh (made from fermented soybeans) or tofu (made from curdled soy milk). Vegetarian alternatives exist for a variety of needs, whether personal or medical, to balance animal and vegetable protein intake, or simply to enjoy more variety. From creamy fromage frais made from cashew nuts or agave or coconut nectars used in place of honey, these plant-based textures can be used in all manner of tasty recipes.
